Coventry University's Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience drives innovative transdisciplinary research on the development of resilient food and water systems throughout the world. Unique to the Centre is its research programme on Stabilisation Agriculture, which aims to enhance the ecological and social resilience of agricultural communities to withstand and respond to adverse conditions in countries affected by natural and human-induced disasters. In the pre-disaster phase, agroecology can, for example, be used as a land management tool in disaster risk reduction programmes, while in the post-disaster phase the aim of Stabilisation Agriculture is the swift re-establishment of primary food production systems that are more resilient than previous systems. Sustainable agriculture and food is thus used both as a means to bring about peace and stability, and as a means to avoid conflict or disaster.
