Coventry University is in the next stage of its ambitious plans to secure future growth and success. Focusing on Research, the Student Experience, International Growth, Innovation and Enterprise; over the five years to 2021 we will have invested over GBP 250 million in our academic capacity and capability, while further developing our world-class facilities.
The school of Art & Design is one the 3 Schools established in September 2015 within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, empowered and strengthened, these new Schools are the driving force for our competitive UK and global academic agenda.
Our staff and students are already achieving great things. Times and Sunday Times Modern University of the Year for 2014 and 2015 and ranked the best for Student Experience, we have now risen to 15th place in the Guardian University Guide 2016, the highest position ever achieved by a modern university.
Having been through the initial development phase of the School of Art and Design we are now seeking an exceptional candidate to join us and lead the School through its next phase of growth. This will see the achievement of an ambitious strategic vision, which defines the future of Art & Design education at Coventry and shapes the future of its disciplines through our national and international collaborations.
As a key member of the Faculty's leadership team, you will provide the School with strategic direction and academic leadership that enables it to contribute to University and Faculty priorities in Teaching & learning, Enterprise and Commercial and International activities. The School of Art & Design comprises an exciting range of subjects, offering exemplary UG and PG courses in: Architecture, Animation; Automotive, Graphic, Interior, and Product Design; Fashion; Fine Art; Games Art; Digital Arts and Illustration. Also of vital importance is the expansion of the Art & Design portfolio and further the development of a national and international profile for the School based on an innovation-led and inclusive ethos. The School was the home for Coventry's successful Unit 34 REF 2014 submission, which comprised 34.5 FTE staff from a range of practice and theory backgrounds; it was ranked 6th in the UK for impact by the Times. In 2017-18 School staff will be core to a new research centre in visual arts.
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and focused individual to define a strategic direction and academic leadership in Art & Design; drive transformational change and growth of the School; show effective leadership, in support of the achievement of School, Faculty and Corporate objectives; demonstrate an acute awareness of the external market and our competitive position; direct the School's senior academic leadership across its portfolios; and lead the development of innovative approaches, which enhance the student experience and ensure the School's portfolio is distinctive and competitive, furthering growth and enhancing the quality of provision. You will be expected to manage the School's resources effectively, including a devolved budget, staff and specialist facilities.
Your leadership skills will inspire and guide the School staff in meeting their contribution to the Corporate Plan. We will look to you to lead staff by example and have proven management experience. You should possess a PhD, coupled with experience in a relevant subject area (or an equivalent level of professional experience and qualifications). We will expect you to demonstrate a successful academic record built on teaching and research together with a strong record of publication and/or creative practice.
