Assistant Professor in Embedded Systems and IoT
Job description
The Research Centre for Data Science, based in the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing (EE&C), provides a hub to develop cutting edge research in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Future Computing. The centre has a vocation to push the boundaries of both fundamental science and practical applications. As such the centre
feeds into applications across the University’s research portfolio.
The Centre for Data Science is looking for a number of ambitious early career academics with postdoctoral experience and an excellent publication record. Candidates should have expertise in Cyber Physical Systems, and specifically Embedded Systems and the IoT.
The post holder will work with the wider Centre team to produce cutting edge research in Cyber Physical Systems Infrastructure and real-time data mining models and architectures across distributed control systems, AI, sensors and measurement for deployable, real-life systems. The post holder needs to have interest in developing across these themes sufficiently to understand highly specialist research by others and lead their own theoretical innovations to prototyping stages and whole systems deployment.
You should hold a PhD in a relevant Electronics or Computer Science subject. You must be a highly proficient programmer and have prior research experience related to physical implementations of wireless sensing, embedded systems programming, data analysis and other aspects of IoT research. Knowledge of experimental research methods is essential.
Successful candidates will have experience in teaching in Higher
Education. Assistant Professors employed in the centre will have reduced teaching loads within the School of Computing Electronics and Mathematics, with a minimum of 60% protected time for research.
