Fixed-term for 36 months
Expected starting date: September 1st, 2018
The job is a full-time position for an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) in the field of environmental impact assessment of the construction of new urban surface designs, materials and areas for deployment. The title of the project is: Project Title: Assessing Environmental Suitability of new Permeable Pavementsin SuDS (EnviSuPP). This project will assess the potential environmental effects of new paving materials, prioritising areas where there is a direct conduit between the paving material and either groundwater and or receiving water courses. The potential for Permeable Pavement Systems (PPS) to retain and bioremediate contaminants from pollution events is well documented, but not fully explored and not optimised. Evaluation of the impact of installing new paving material formulations, and the consequent possibility of the contamination of surrounding locations is a new research area in the field of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). The study will focus on 100% recycled asphalts (RA)and fast-repairing asphalts (FRACs), for both their (i) retention and removal of contaminants from surrounding sources e.g. from cars and (ii) screening for the release of environmentally damaging compounds from the new paving materials.
Job duration: 36 months
