Exciting opportunity to join the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR) at Coventry University
Coventry University is looking to appoint new Assistant Professors to meet immediate needs, to join this multi-disciplinary and multi-national team of over 60 researchers and experts, and more than 70 PhD candidates and 60 Masters students. The posts offer significant opportunities to build on CTPSR’s established reputation for research quality, and help define the distinctive contribution that Coventry University seeks to make in world-class research for peaceful relations. We seek well-qualified candidates with proven expertise and track record in the following fields:
Since establishment in 2014, CTPSR has grown and built an international reputation for work with communities to transform approaches to positively address aspects of violent conflict at multiple levels, including local communities, regions and nations. Central to its core work on peacefulness is a study and understanding of the role of trust, resilience and cohesiveness in societies. CTPSR places emphasis on relationships through issues and contexts such as international migration and displacement, conflict resolution and reconciliation, social identity, inequality and mobility, wealth and poverty, integration and pluralism, prejudice and discrimination, inter-group conflict and cooperation, the problem of civil rights and the politics of equality.
CTPSR’s innovative work uses a holistic approach of direct engagement with grassroots organisations, which has transformational impact on the ground. Its diverse research teams have direct field experience of the whole conflict cycle: from prevention, response and conflict mitigation. The measured value and impact of the work is evident in the influence it has had on peacefulness in communities, and for people, who deal on a daily basis with violent conflict and unstable contexts.
The Centre’s profile is reflected in its publications, funded research and research environment. CTPSR prides itself on spreading good practice amongst its staff in academic writing, with a focus on issues of rigour, significance, and excellence in written outputs. Members of our Centre have published articles in high-ranking journals in fields of politics, international relations, inter-communal relationships and faith, security studies, and trust. CTPSR currently manages a number of significant funded research projects for ESRC, AHRC, UK Newton Fund, Leverhulme, the European Commission, and other foundations, including a £20m 5-year UKRI GCRF Project on ‘South–South Migration, Inequality and Development’. Additionally, CTPSR is home to the international secretariat for the ACUNS network until 2023, and convenes the annual RISING Global Peace Forum.
Well-qualified candidates will have a strong research track record in the fields listed above, and value team working and collaborative approaches, with an evident strong commitment to promoting the values that underpin the subject and applied research activities. As an Assistant Professor, you will develop and manage research projects, teams and individuals, using specialist knowledge. You will seek funding opportunities for applications and routes to disseminate research findings that enhance knowledge, inform teaching and build the reputation of the University. You will assist in identifying sources of external funding as well as contributing to research groups or communities of practice.
Duties also include publishing as principal author or co-author and disseminating research findings through papers, books, presentations at conferences and exhibitions. You should therefore have a good level of experience working in research in social sciences or humanities and previous research in an area related to the overall work of the Centre.
