The centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (CSM) is seeking to employ an ambitious researcher on a full-time permanent position as Assistant Professor in Machine Learning and Computer Vision.
Candidates should have postdoctoral experience and an excellent publication record with expertise in the general area of Machine Learning, with a focus on Computer Vision, Signal Processing for machine perception, and Deep Learning. This can include, but is not limited to: image/video processing for autonomous vehicles, multi-sensor data fusion applications, medical image processing, biometrics applications (such as iris, fingerprint, face recognition), real-time object detection in videos for surveillance applications, hyperspectral image processing, digital watermarking, radar image processing, human/target detection and tracking.
Previous experience in the development and implementation of real-world applications involving traditional and state-of-the-art image/signal processing algorithms, deep and transfer learning methods, and large-scale data analytics is desirable.
The Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling has a vocation to link fundamental scientific research with the solution of current societal problems, as for example outlined in the UN’s Strategic Development Goals. Solving global challenges relies to a greater or lesser extent on advances in and the application of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Modelling. The centre has a mission to provide fundamental and applied research in these areas to the wider scientific community to enable the emergence of novel and timely solutions to well specified real-life problems.
The current position will grow the area of computer vision in the centre, which is an essential area in data engineering, as real-time computer vision is now embedded in many aspects of real life. There are significant algorithmic (machine learning/data science) limitations that need to be overcome.
The successful candidate will be a core member of the research centre with reduced teaching obligations. They will, however, be expected to contribute to research enriched teaching, including project supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
They will be expected to contribute actively to the development and delivery of the centre’s portfolio of funded research.
As an institution we hold an Athena Swan Bronze Award and are a Disability Confident Employer. In addition, we have signed up to the Social Mobility Pledge to highlight our commitment to improving social mobility.
Demonstrating a commitment to provide equality of opportunity, we would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic applicants who are currently under-represented within the centre. All applicants will be judged on merit, according to the selection criteria.
Our staff and students come from all over the world and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diversity groups and champions. For more information see https://www.coventry.ac.uk/the-university/key-information/equality-and-diversity/
