Job description
FIXED TERM UNTIL AUGUST 2018
This position provides the opportunity for a successful candidate to be part of an exciting new venture with Coventry University, undertaking varied projects for all sectors of the transport industry, within a brand new fully equipped design and modelling facility. The position requires someone with the creative ability and
flexibility to use a wide range of technology and skills to plan and support the production of concepts in 3 dimensions as development models, high quality presentation models, or in virtual reality.
The role is to provide effective support for the practise of academics, researchers, students and external industry partners enabling them to realise and visualise their research ideas in 3 dimensions. This will require a wide range of skills, both traditional and digital, combined with the ability to plan, organise and work collaboratively. A good understanding and experience of the efficient planning and manufacture of a variety of presentation models for the transport sector is required. Including the construction and production of full size automotive clay models combined with knowledge of relevant rapid prototyping techniques.
The candidate would be expected to work closely with students, maintaining a safe and supportive environment, developing their knowledge and skills, inputting positively to their projects to help them realise their creative potential.
Alongside the ability to operate and maintain the studio equipment and oversee the safe operation of the studio, if a project necessitates, there will be a requirement to source and arrange the provision of additional appropriate manpower and skills, managing their efficient use to best support the required outcomes for the project. In addition provision of specialist services not available within the NDTC (eg Paint) would need to be identified and managed.
To support the capability of the studio the candidate would need to be digitally literate with experience and understanding of industry standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Alias Autostudio and Autocad.
The NDTC will be involved in challenging research identifying the future direction of the transport industry and will need somebody interested in being proactive in identifying developments in technology that might be required to support future research and keeping their skills relevant and up to date
