Coventry Law School is part of the Faculty of Business and Law, which brings together teaching and research across Business, Law, Accountancy, Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, Sport/Event Management and Human Resources. We are looking for a talented individual at either Principal Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level focusing on, but not limited to, leading or teaching on Environmental Law, Business Law, and/or International Business Law with the ability to teach on core legal areas, particularly Property Law and the Law of Equity and Trusts; and shaping the further development of research in Coventry Law School. Principal Lecturers are regarded as academics leader in the university focusing on innovation in, and development of, the core activities of teaching and/or applied research. This post offers the chance to specialise and play to personal strengths in preparation for further advancement to Professorship or to senior management positions such as Head of Department and Dean. You will, therefore be expected to contribute to the formation and implementation of strategic priorities in the University and to work across disciplinary and structural boundaries in the University where it is appropriate to do so.
You will be expected to focus on two of three of: development and enhancement of learning and teaching; applied research; academic leadership at School/Faculty /University level. For this post, you will be expected to take a leading role in the development of teaching and learning, curriculum development of the Environmental Law, Business Law and/or International Business Law modules; as well as an ability to teach on core legal areas, particularly the Law of Equity and Trusts and Property Law. You will also work with Law Professors on the leadership and development of research in Coventry Law School in the first instance. Senior Lecturers undertake undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching, curriculum development, course management on the Law courses, including - but not limited to - Environmental Law, Business Law and/or International Business Law; as well as an ability to teach on core legal areas, particularly the Law of Equity and Trusts and Property Law. Based in Coventry, you will be focused primarily on teaching on the LLB programmes and assisting the School's Professors in developing the research activities of Coventry Law School.
With a PhD in an appropriate subject or equivalent professional qualification, you should have some teaching experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes. Active membership or fellowship of a professional body would be advantageous.
This role will require you to contribute to the promotion and external profile of the University and adopt a customer/client focused approach where appropriate; you will also assist with development of external partnerships in the UK and/or overseas and the development of relationships with professional organisations and agencies. You should therefore be willing to travel abroad to undertake academic and related activities. Experience of living or working abroad along with competence in more than one language would be an advantage.
