The Research Centre for Manufacturing and Materials (CMM) and the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME), part of Coventry University’s Institute for Clean Growth and Future Mobility (CGFM), is seeking to recruit a capable and experienced Associate Professor to take a leadership position in the exciting and growing area of Sustainable Manufacturing.
This is an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual with a PhD or equivalent professional experience demonstrating an ability to carry-out independent research, a track-record of high-quality research publications and successful delivery of UKRI grant funded projects in Sustainable Manufacturing.
The focus of the successful applicant’s will take a leading role in the delivery of impactful research activity within the CMM/AME in the area of Sustainable Manufacturing. In particular, this post has specific responsibility for leading the research theme for Sustainable Manufacturing which aims to contribute to future ultra-efficient, low energy, circular and carbon-neutral manufacturing.
The Associate Professor in Sustainable Manufacturing is expected to conduct trans-disciplinary research exploiting the possibilities offered by advanced materials, digital technologies and manufacturing technologies to achieve a considerable reduction of the ecological impact and CO2-emissions from the manufacturing sector.
The key areas of expertise we are looking for includes the following:
- Sustainability in Manufacturing Systems;
- Life Cycle Analysis;
- Carbon footprint analysis;
- Production Design for Sustainable Manufacturing;
- Cyber Physical Systems; and
- Experience in UK/EU project development and management,
The successful candidate will be working as part of a cross-disciplinary team of academics and industrial engineers as part of a large team. They will engage with stakeholders, either directly or through colleagues with responsibilities in this area in order to identify and focus on specific datasets and problems.
As part of its expansion the AME has invested over £5M in new facilities and equipment which includes a digital demonstrator co-created with our industrial partners to replicate the systems and data sets currently used across the manufacturing and engineering value chain. The successful candidate will have access to the AME facilities in order to conduct research experiments and to contribute to the knowledge base around this topic.
The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant research group, working closely with other researchers and industrial partners. There will also be opportunities for national and international travel, and collaboration with other research organisations.
