This year has seen Coventry University cement its status as the country's top modern University,with a rise in the Guardian University Guide 2018 to 12th spot, the highest ever placing for a modern university. We continue to build on our reputation from other key league tables, notably last month's Complete University Guide where we were ranked top new university, and the Times Higher Education world rankings - the latter naming Coventry University as one of the world's top institutions under 50 years old.
Research within the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences (CSELS) reflects abroad strength of sport, exercise and biological associated sciences to understand life from the level of molecules through to the whole body. The Centre has considerable expertise, ranging from expertise in cell biology, genomic and molecular biology, biochemistry, nutrition and food science, safety pharmacology, physiology, physical activity and sport performance.
We are seeking to appoint a talented researcher with research expertise and experience in Molecular Exercise Physiology/Sport Science to complement existing research strengths. Specifically we are looking for individuals whose research will add to our Sport and Human Performance and Physical Activity and Exercise Interventions Research Themes. You will be based in the new Science and Health Building which has state-of-the-art sport, exercise and life sciences research facilities
You will contribute to a programme of research studying signal transduction and genetics in relation to exercise, physical activity and sport.
It is expected that the successful applicant has experience in characterising the mechanisms that are responsible for the adaptation of cells and organs to exercise and/or identifying the genetic determinants of human performance at a molecular level.
In this role, you will plan, lead and carry out a high-quality research programme in the field of Molecular Exercise Physiology/Sport Science undertake project management and/or supervise multi-disciplinary teams. In addition, you will be expected to submit publications to peer-reviewed journals, attract external research funding, and contribute to the teaching activities of the Centre.
You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your extensive knowledge and subject expertise through individual and collaborative academic activity. Successful candidates will be selected according to the excellence of their research profile and plans, and the extent to which their research interests complement the Sport and Human Performance and Physical Activity and Exercise Interventions Research Themes theme.
