The Centre for Academic Writing (CAW) provides individualised and small-group writing tutorials for Coventry University students, including email and Skype writing tutorials via the Coventry Online Writing Lab (COWL). CAW also offers undergraduate and postgraduate workshops on academic writing and a CU Harvard Reference query service (www.coventry.ac.uk/caw).
CAW is seeking to hire a full-time Academic Writing Tutor to join CAW's existing team of professional Writing Tutors. The primary responsibility of the post is writing tutoring. However, the post-holder will also focus on electronic and other resource production, and enquiry into the use of technology to support students' writing development. There is a need to source and develop e-resources for use in CAW's online writing tutorials, as well as self-directed online academic writing materials. An Academic Writing Tutor who can keep abreast of digital technologies' application to writing pedagogy will enable the continued development of CAW's tutoring team in terms of writing and technology in order to better support student writers.
The post is full-time (36.5 hours per week) and will include working at CAW on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
This post requires a highly-motivated individual, educated to Master's degree level or beyond, who possesses excellent speaking and writing skills and who has recent experience of teaching or tutoring writing or language in a HE institution in the UK or other English speaking country. The ability to listen and respond effectively to student-writers is essential for this post, and experience of developing resources using IT and digital technologies is advantageous.
